NEWS AND ANNOUNCEMENTS

NOTICE is hereby given to all electors of the Town of Monroe and any U.S. Citizen of the age of 18 years or more who jointly or severally is liable to the Town for taxes assessed against him or her on an assessment of not less than One Thousand ($1,000) Dollars on the last completed Grand List of such Town, that a BUDGET REFERENDUM will be held on TUESDAY, MAY 7, 2024, between the hours of 6:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. for the purpose of voting on the Annual Town Budget for the Fiscal Year July 1, 2024 to June 30, 2025.  Voting will take place ONLY at the following location:    

 

          ST. JUDE SCHOOL – 707 MONROE TURNPIKE, MONROE, CT

 

Persons who are not registered voters, who will be voting as property owners on the Grand List, may vote at Town Hall in the Registrars of Voters Office between the hours of 6:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m.

The question will be “Shall the Annual Town Budget consisting of the Revenue Budget and Expenditure Budget of $104,109,694. for the Fiscal Year July 1, 2024 through June 30, 2025, inclusive, be approved?”

A vote of YES will be counted as a vote of approval and a vote of NO will be counted as a vote of disapproval.

Absentee ballots will be available at the Office of the Town Clerk and will be centrally counted at Monroe Town Hall during the hours of voting.  Saturday hours are offered on 5/4 for the purpose of voting absentee from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. for those that qualify. 

This Referendum is being held pursuant to the provisions of Chapter VIII, Sec. 6 of the Monroe Town Charter.

The mission of the Monroe Town Clerk’s Office is to provide the citizens of Monroe quality service in a courteous and efficient manner while conforming to State of Connecticut General Statutes, Secretary of the State of Connecticut and the Monroe Town Charter. Additional responsibilities include elections administration, act as the registrar of vital statistics, service veterans in conjunction with the Connecticut Department of Veterans Affairs, manage public records, maintain and publish municipal ordinances/town code, notice and record Town Meetings and act as custodian of the official Town Seal. The office is a resource for boards, commissions and elected officials. 

Primary Programs & Services  

  • Recording and permanently storing land records and maps.  
  • State’s agent for permits and certificates and registrar of vital statistics. Issuance of liquor permits, notary public certificates, hunting and fishing licenses, trade name certificates, birth, marriage and death certificates, burial permits and dog licenses.  
  • Elections law administration through the Secretary of the State of Connecticut. Generates documents involving absentee ballots, sample ballots, creating the list of offices to be filled, candidate committees and campaign financing and legal ads. 
  • Serves as the Veterans Service Contact for the Connecticut Department of Veterans Affair.  
  • Manage appointed and elected officials term dates. Keeper of the record for agendas, voting records and minutes of boards and commissions following the Freedom of Information Act.  
  • Maintain Municipal Ordinances/Town Code as well as clerk for Town Meetings.

Following is a list of qualifications that permit you to vote by absentee:

  • Active Service in the Armed Forces of the United States
  • Absence from the town of residence
  • Sickness
  • Religious tenets forbid secular activity on the day of the Primary
  • Physical disability

The Town Clerk’s Office is available between the hours of 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday and Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Birth Certificates can be obtained by calling the office at 203-452-2811 where you will be instructed on the process.
