Welcome to the community!

If we could take a few moments of your time we would like to introduce you to the Monroe Police Department's Animal Control Unit.

The Animal Control Unit is a branch of the Police Department. The officers are appointed and supervised by the Chief of Police in conjunction with the State of Connecticut's Department of Agriculture. It is comprised of one full-time officer and five part-time officers, necessary to administer and enforce the laws pertaining to animals.

The Unit investigates all calls concerning animals, both domestic and wild. Is responsible for rendering aid to sick or injured animals, immature wild animals found abandoned are transported to State licensed Wildlife Rehabilitators. Animals that are deemed public health or safety threats are removed from the population in a humane manner. The Animal Control Unit is NOT licensed for the trapping of so called nuisance wildlife. In addition to the calls received, the Unit is required to impound stray, unlicensed, roaming dogs, or animals found injured on the roadways. Our impound facility (DOG POUND) is located at 447 Purdy Hill Road.
