POCD COMMITTEE WORK MEETINGS
DECEMBER 7, 2020 MEETING
________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
The Town of Monroe under the direction and coordination of the Planning and Zoning Commission is in the process of reviewing and updating the Town’s current 2010 Plan of Conservation and Development ("POCD”). In accordance with Connecticut State Statutes, the POCD is required to be reviewed and updated at least every ten (10) years – meaning the POCD must be updated before the end of 2020.
As the process unfolds, this web page will display a variety of documents that go into the making of the POCD, as well as drafts and updates on the status of the update – so please check back frequently to learn of the update status, date and time of meetings, and of opportunities to participate and give your direct input.
The POCD is an extremely important planning document, consisting of a statement of goals, policies, and actions addressing the physical (including both built and natural conditions), cultural, and economic development of the Town. It establishes a common vision for our future, and contains policies and recommended actions to achieve that vision. POCD goals and recommendations to be effective must reflect consensus of what is desirable for Monroe into the future.
The Town has engaged the services of professional planning consultants Fitzgerald & Halliday, Inc. to assist in the review, public participation activities and preparation of the updated POCD. Preparation of the updated POCD will involve participation by Town departments, Town and School commissions and boards, emergency services, property and business owners, institutional groups and organizations, and the members of the public. The updated POCD will assess past accomplishments of the last decade, the changes that have and are occurring, and then look forward in the setting of a vision and course of action for the next ten (10) years. Along the way, there will be a series of public meetings, as well as varied opportunities and activities seeking much wanted public input and participation. The POCD is a Town-wide endeavor, inclusive of all.
